Day 7

Going off the plan for a bit nd gonna do my own craft ideas instead of what the book says.

Today, I made a moustache out of text.

I might use this in a larger piece later on... or maybe I'll print it out on a transparency and make a screen print out of it for t-shirts.... who knows... for now it's just a moustache made out of a ton of size 2 "moustaches"

Day 6

I didn't follow the book for today's project.... and it was kind of an easy one... so I did two.

The first one I did was making an eraser from a kit that we bought... I'm sure Melanie had a lot to say about that stupid kit... so make sure you head to her blog and read all about how much of a rip off it was.  As for me, well... I found the included tool very useful... but I will concede that overall the kit was not worth how ever much we spent on it.  I made a tiny orange moustache (yep... looks pretty much just like the carrot one.) and used up all the orange clay that came with the kit.

Looking forward to tomorrow's project... stencil time!   I think there is a project coming up that has to do with upcycling an old book into a project.  That sounds fun too...

Oh!  Here is the bonus project I did!

Made it for Mel... she knew I was making a Hello Kitty with nerd glasses.... she didn't know about the moustache though.... I tried adding some magnetic tape, but it didn't stick very well... we need to get the right sized glue for our glue gun so that I can put the magnets on it to make it into a fridge magnet.

Day 5

FOOD!  Today we were instructed to head into the kitchen and construct something out of fruits and/or vegetables.  I took a baby carrot and whittled away until I had a delightful orange moustache.... then I posed for my picture... and promptly ate it.

Day 4

Today's project was supposed to be making something out of something that I collect...

Well... I have a moustache collection... So I just decided to use that as my project for the day... kinda lazy, but whatever...

There it is, our prized moustache collection from Melanie's birthday party 2 years ago...  Melanie framed them awhile ago.

Day 3

Paper.... can't use scissors, or draw on it....

So... I folded it... I made a big origami moustache.... it took a lot of messing around to get my final product, (Which I ended up having to tape into place because construction paper is too thick to hold the folds.) and the finished product wasn't as fancy as I would have liked, but it's better than nothing.

Day 2

"What's your favorite animal? Use it as your inspiration today."

Well... that didn't go as well as I planned it.  Turns out this Perler bead thing I wanted to get into takes a lot longer to do without the proper tools.  For example, my pegboard was only 15 x 15... so my original design idea, seen here....

Would have taken forever... even though I was intending to only do his head and go for a low resolution version... having every pixel be bead means that a 60p x 60p (Which is ridiculously small and low-fi) requires me to make 16 boards and then iron them together when I am done.... This will change if/when I get the proper tools.... but for now I decided my project needed to be simplified somethat.... This is what I ended up with for today.

Additionally, I completed one of the 16 squares for my mickey project...

It's part of his right ear...

Can't wait for tomorrow!

Day 1

Here's what the book says for today.

"The first step is the hardest, so start small today and make something that fits in the palm of your hand using only the materials in your immediate environment."

"1: The Teeniest Moustache"
-Handworked Gold Foil

I wasn't sure what I was gonna do, but supposedly the first step is the hardest... at least according to the book, so it's more important to just jump in than it is to make a huge splash on Day 1.  The foil is actually from a delicious Dark Chocolate with Ginger and Orange Peel bar that Mel gave me for Christmas.
